Cleaning Validation Biotech & Biologics Roundtable

What is it?

A group of pharmaceutical manufacturers that meets twice a year to discuss cleaning validation issues for biotechnology and biologics manufacturing. This roundtable is part of the follow-up from an initial meeting that was held in San Antonio, Texas in January 2008.

Who sponsors this roundtable?

The roundtable is sponsored by Cleaning Validation Technologies, and is lead (facilitated) by Destin LeBlanc.

What happens at roundtable meetings?

Topics related to cleaning and cleaning validation are discussed, with various approaches considered. The roundtable may also coordinate laboratory studies among member companies to support certain cleaning validation practices. Finally, the roundtable may support publication of best practices for cleaning and cleaning validation for biotechnology and biologics manufacturing.

Can I join?

If you are a manufacturer of biotechnology and/or biologics products, you are eligible to join. Membership is by company, not by individual.

What does it cost to join?

As discussed previously, membership is by company. Membership is $2,000 per year.

What are the benefits of joining?

Each member company is allowed to send up to two representatives to each meeting. The biotech roundtable meets twice a year, for two days each time. Topics to be discussed are decided by members. Summaries of discussions at each meeting are prepared by Cleaning Validation Technologies, and distributed to members.

Where are meetings held?

Meetings are held in the United States, with meetings rotated among East Coast, West Coast and Central locations. In order to hold costs to a minimum, meetings are held at locations of member companies.

Are there any other costs?

Member companies who hold meetings at their location provide the meeting room, audio/visual equipment (including an LCD projector for a computer), lunch and refreshments. Representatives who attend the meetings pay their own travel expenses.

Are only the same two representatives eligible to attend?

No. Any two representatives from a member company may attend. Decisions as to who attends could be made by a member company based on the topics to be covered. However, there will be one person designated by each member company who will serve as an official liaison for that company.

When are the next meetings?

The first meting of the Biotech & Biologics Roundtable will be in September 2008, and the second meeting will be in March 2009. Additional meeting information will be provided as it becomes available.
